Savannah, Edward Jack, 1898-1960Series consists of photographs of advertising billboards and other signage in the downtown area, James Bay, and Vic West.
The photographs were, in all probability, taken as supporting evidence for proposed amendments to the 1963 sign bylaw (no. 5335). The amendments contained in bylaw no. 6418, which would purge Victoria of all commercial billboards over a 3-year period as well as restrict the number, size and content, was passed by Council 10 August 1972. All photographs were taken between 8 May and 11 May 1972.
Each image has a general view in Polaroid format and a close up view in standard 35 mm format.
